  22. ASTRONOMICAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  24.            Located at 20 degrees N. Latitude
  25.            Halley's head will be approx 40 degrees above horizon
  26.            Extremely dark skies - only ocean in Halley's direction
  27.            Weather in April features cool, clear nights
  28.            Dates planned span Halley's closest approach
  29.            Telescope and camera provided for group project
  30.            After-dinner "rap sessions" and banquet

  33. LOCATION:   Cozumel is an island located just off the Yucatan Peninsula
  34. in the Western Caribbean.  Our hotel and all civilization on the island
  35. is located on the western side, facing the mainland.  Observing is
  36. planned for the eastern side of the island, 20 miles from any lights on
  37. the island itself.  To the southeast, where Halley will appear, there is
  38. nothing but ocean for over 1000 miles.   The observing site and skies
  39. will be suitably dark for general observing as well as Halley-watching.

  41. TOUR PLAN:   A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hotel Sol Caribe,
  42. a 4-star hotel on the beach.   A block of seats has also  been reserved
  43. on Mexicana Airlines,  leaving Miami at 2:40 PM on April  5th.  We have
  44. a professional travel agent as tour co-ordinator for all persons joining
  45. us.  Arrangements have been made for several mini-buses to support the
  46. nightly observing trips on Cozumel.  Chuck will share a telescope with
  47. the group for part of each evening, and devote one camera (and film)
  48. fully to a group photo effort for the week.  A sumptuous buffet-style
  49. banquet is planned for our last night on the island.  No definite plans
  50. have been made for the days - you are free to do whatever you enjoy:
  51. tour the Mayan ruins on the island,  rent a motorbike and explore,  go 
  52. snorkeling or scuba diving,  deep sea fishing,  shopping in the village, 
  53. or  just  lie  by  the  pool or on  the  beach.   There  will  be  ample 
  54. opportunity for socializing with your fellow astronomers, as well.

  57. TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS

  59. FLIGHTS:  Depart April 5, 1986 from Miami at 2:40 PM, direct to Cozumel,
  60. arriving at 6:00 PM local time.  Returning April 13, 1986 on a flight
  61. from Cozumel at 11:00 AM, direct to Miami, arriving 1:25 PM Miami time.
  62. Flights are on a 727, lunch will be served.

  64. LUGGAGE:  Each person is allowed 2 pieces of checked luggage, up to 70
  65. pounds per bag.  Provisions for extra bags and overweight bags at extra
  66. cost.

  69. Includes flights to and from Miami,  hotel,  transportation to and  from 
  70. airport and observing, maid, Mexican taxes.  Food is not included.
